All praise is due to Allah, and may exaltation and safety be granted to Muhammad, his family, his companions, and those who aid them. To proceed:
Allah, the Most High, says in meaning:
1. Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind
2. The Sovereign of mankind
3. The God of mankind
4. From the evil of the retreating whisperer
5. Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind
6. From among the jinn and mankind.
[An Explanation of Soorah an-Naas] (1)
[1]: “Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind:” Say -O Messenger- I seek refuge and protection with Allah, the Lord of mankind, He Who is solely and completely Able to repel evil whispers [from harming mankind];
[2]: “The Sovereign of mankind:” The One Who governs all of their affairs, the One free from need of them;
[3]: “The God of mankind:” Who there is no true deity except Him;
[4]: “From the evil of the retreating whisperer:” From the harm of Shaytaan (i.e. the Devil) who whispers [to mankind] when they are negligent in the remembrance of Allah;
[5]: “Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind:” He who casts evil and doubts into the chests of mankind;
[6]: “From among the jinn and mankind:” From the Shayaateen (i.e. Devils) of jinn and mankind. [Soorah an-Naas]
