All praise is due to Allah, and may exaltation and safety be granted to Muhammad, his family, his companions, and those who aid them. To proceed:

Allah, the Most High, says in meaning:

1. Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak

2. From the evil of that which He created

3. And from the evil of darkness when it settles

4. And from the evil of the blowers in knots

5. And from the evil of an envier when he envies. [Soorah al-Falaq]

 

[An Explanation of Soorah al-Falaq] (1)

 

[1]: “Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak:” Say -O Messenger of Allah- I seek refuge with and protection with the Lord of daybreak, the morning;

[2]: “From the evil of that which He created:” From the evil-side of every created being and their harms;

[3]: “And from the evil of darkness when it settles:” From the evil of extremely dark nights when it (i.e. darkness) spreads, and from the evil and harms contained therein (i.e. night-time);

[4]: “And from the evil of the blowers in knots:” From the evil of magicians who blow into knots with the intention of performing magic;

[5]: “And from the evil of an envier when he envies:” From the evil of an hateful envier of people when he envies them because of what Allah has bestowed upon them from His blessings, desiring by his envy the removal of their blessings and for harm to befall them.
